Coosawattee

Subdivision in Blairsville, GA

Meandering through East and West Ellijay you’ll find the Coosawattee River. What was once an intense 50 mile river that inspired James Dickey to write the 1970 novel “Deliverance”, has since been tamed by the construction of Carters Lake. Back in the day, the Coosawatee River was raging with spectacular class 4 rapids that rivaled those of the Chattooga River. Today, you can enjoy a comfortable float with only class 1 and 2 rapids. Amazingly enough after the river passes through Ellijay it continues on converging into the Conasauga River, the Oostanaula River, and finally the Tallapoosa River, before flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. Most notably in Ellijay, a large land development, The Coosawattee River Resort, planned its footprint around the beautiful Coosawattee River. Come out and explore the shoreline, fish from its banks, and float down her current!
